A vision board can be a useful tool in your preparations for birth and beyond. It’s basically a collage filled with intention and purpose, designed to inspire and motivate. Typically, vision boards are filled with magazine clippings and other images, positive affirmations, visceral words, and inspirational quotes. People usually display their vision board somewhere they will see it each day. Let’s say you create a vision board for some specific goals that you have and you display it in your room. Seeing it each morning can remind you of your goals and impact the actions you take throughout the day.
Let’s explore more on why and how a vision board could help you. I will also discuss how to easily create a digital version using Pinterest and why I prefer this over the traditional method.
Creating a vision board for the journey through birth and beyond could have so many benefits for you.
✨ Do you have a strong sense of what kind of birth feels idea or desirable? Consider building a collection of meaningful images and words that fit your vision to serve as a daily reminder of any preferences or goals that you have. How do you think seeing this each day could impact how you prepare for birth throughout pregnancy?
✨ Are you still thinking about what you want your birth to look like? Start collecting images, affirmations, and quotes that speak to you. As you create your vision board, really look at what you’ve pulled together. What kind of insight is this giving you on what you might want for your birth?
✨ Do you have any unresolved fears surrounding birth? Consider building a vision board filled with positive imagery, affirmations, and quotes to help expose you to birth in a beautiful and empowering light. People love to share their birth horror stories. Do you think it could help to counteract those with an alternative view?
✨ When looking beyond birth, use these prompts above but adjust for postpartum and parenting. And don’t limit your vision board to just baby-related topics! Becoming a parent is a major life transition and shift in identity. How could you use your vision board to explore this?
Take your vision board a step further, and use it to inspire journal prompts. Here are some ideas:
Pinterest is an amazing tool for creating a digital vision board. If you’re not familiar with Pinterest, it’s basically a search engine tool. You can enter terms into the search bar and see what “Pins” comes up. Pins are images or short videos that link to other websites. Because Pinterest is such a visual platform, Pins are often visually appealing and attractive.
You can create boards on Pinterest and save Pins to them. Once you’ve saved a bunch of pins to a board, it becomes a digital collage. Your boards can be made public or secret, depending on your preference.
So why do I think Pinterest is a great platform for creating a vision board? Here are a few reasons:
If you’re interested in trying this out, create an account on Pinterest or visit the one you already have. Create a board and give it a title, like “My Birth Vision Board”. You can opt to make it public or secret. Start searching for Pins to add to your board. The beauty of Pinterest is that this can remain a work in progress for as long as you want. Visit it frequently for inspiration and motivation. Add or take away Pins, as necessary.
